An eGFR blood test measures kidney function. The kidneys filtration rate called the glomerular filtration rate GFR reflects how well the kidneys are filtering. There are two questions to calculate eGFR from a blood creatinine sample the old C-G equation and the newer MDRD equation.

Within the kidneys are small filters called glomeruli which allow waste products to be removed from the blood while at the same time preventing proteins and blood cells from being lost. The estimated glomerular filtration rate eFGR blood test is used to monitor an individuals kidney status.
